About St. Joe
St. Joseph Hospital is Fort Wayne’s first hospital, established in 1869. Today, the facility provides our community with quality healthcare services, including the St. Joseph Regional Burn Center, the only verified burn center in northeast Indiana. St. Joseph Hospital is also known for its commitment to seniors, focusing on both medical needs and social events.
Catholic Mission Embraced at St. Joseph Hospital
St. Joseph Hospital, the oldest hospital in Fort Wayne, is also the only Catholic hospital in the city. The hospital preserves and protects its Catholic identity by upholding the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services as approved by the United States Catholic Conference of Bishops.
Since a Catholic healthcare institution is a community of healing and compassion, the care offered at St. Joseph is not limited to the treatment of a disease or bodily ailment. The care also embraces the physical, psychological, social and spiritual dimensions of each patient. As a faith-based institution, the hospital’s objectives are to promote health and relieve human suffering while respecting each patient’s human dignity and eternal destiny.
Catholic services offered at St. Joseph include:
- Daily administration of sacraments by a Catholic priest chaplain
- Daily distribution of Holy Communion by volunteers
- Daily Mass in the chapel (televised for patient viewing)
- Daily morning and evening prayers via the loudspeaker (televised for patient viewing)
- 24/7 chaplaincy services
- Assistance with completion of living wills and durable power of attorney for healthcare for all patients
- Religious artwork displayed throughout the hospital

Location
St. Joseph Hospital is located in the heart of Fort Wayne but also provides services to those living in northern Allen County through Dupont Medical Park (2510 E. Dupont Road) which is located on Dupont Hospital’s campus. St. Joseph Hospital is also committed to the city's southeast side with services at Anthony Medical Center and Lafayette Medical Center. Both facilities house laboratory and radiology services, Northeast Indiana Rehabilitation Institute (NIRI) and physician offices.
