Services Guide
Nursery
We are the first in the city to initiate the nationally recognized 'Wee Care' recommendations with our state-of-the-art, baby-friendly nursery and NICU. Our facilities have low lighting, rubber floors and specialized ceiling tiles to decrease noise for baby's comfort and to nurture his or her development.
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
We call it a Level IIIB NICU— you call it peace of mind. We are staffed and equipped to care for babies born at less than 28 weeks gestation. We have a broad range of pediatric medical subspecialists, highly skilled nursing and respiratory care staff, advanced respiratory support and physiologic monitoring equipment, laboratory and imaging facilities, nutrition and pharmacy support with pediatric expertise, social services and pastoral care.
Patient Education
The Birthplace at St. Joe offers Lamaze and sibling classes and breastfeeding support groups. Our classes help both parents share the childbearing experience. You will tour our maternity area and learn about pregnancy, labor, epidural anesthesia, childbirth and newborn care. We also offer sessions on cesarean sections and breastfeeding. Big brothers and sisters even have their own classes, so they can be included in planning for the big day.
We also offer "Baby and Me from A to Z," a four-week series of FREE 60- to 90-minute classes for new mothers-to-be that covers topics ranging from prenatal vitamins to car-seat installation. The series is offered as a continuous loop, so no matter which week you join, after four weeks, our goal is for you to feel informed about what you need to know in order to have a safe pregnancy and a healthy baby.
Jacuzzi® — Pain Management
As a form of alternative pain management, the OB unit at St. Joe features a Jacuzzi® specifically adapted for mothers-to-be. Call (260) 425-3280 for more information.

Nursing Care
We are particularly proud of our nurses at St. Joe. They have been with us for an average of 15-20 years, and most of them are certified through the Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses, which emphasized their expertise, knowledge and dedication. Our nurses will comfort you in countless ways during labor and delivery. After the birth of your little miracle, they'll keep right on pampering you and also teach you how to care for yourself and your baby at home.
4D Ultrasound
St. Joe offers 4D ultrasound for your prenatal care needs. This technology provides clear, moving three-dimensional pictures of your baby. Ask your doctor for more information.
