Adult Sleep/Wake Quiz

  1. Do you feel sleepy during the day?
  2. When you have the opportunity, do you always take a nap?
  3. Does sleepiness interfere with your work or social activities?
  4. Do you sometimes fall asleep when you do not intend to, such as while watching TV, reading or during a conversation?
  5. Have you ever fallen asleep while driving?
  6. Do you sleep for more than nine hours over a 24 hour period?
  7. Do you snore almost every night?
  8. Does someone complain about your snoring?
  9. Have you ever been told that you hold your breath or stop breathing while sleeping?
  10. Do you wake up feeling unrefreshed most of the time?
  11. Do you often wake up with a headache?
  12. Do you often wake up with a dry mouth?
  13. Are you overweight?
  14. Do you have a neck size of 17 inches or more?
  15. Do you have high blood pressure?

 

Adult quiz answers:

"Yes" to #'s 1-6
You are excessively sleeping during the day.

"Yes" to #6
You may be a longer sleeper, just like others are shorter sleepers. But, you may also be chronically sleep deprived, especially if you answered yes to question 2.

"Yes" to #'s 3, 4 and 5
You might be endangering yourself or others. You may have narcolepsy or you may have sleep apnea. Narcolepsy is a sleep disorder characterized by sleep attacks that are almost irresistible.

"Yes" to #'s 7,  8 and 9
You may have sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is a condition in which breathing is repeatedly interrupted during sleep. The time period for which breathing stops is usually 10–30 seconds.

"Yes" to #'s 10, 11 or 12
You have problems after waking up. This can happen to people who have insomnia, breathe through the mouth or have sleep apnea.

"Yes" to #'s 13, 14 or 15
These are factors that are seen in people who have sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is a condition in which breathing is repeatedly interrupted during sleep. The time period for which the breathing stops is usually 10–30 seconds.
