The Birthplace is quiet and comfortable, with private rooms that include:
- A flat-panel TV
- Wi-Fi access
- A sleep area for mom’s support person
There is also a 24/7 snack area, since moms may be awake and hungry at any time.
Preregistering for baby's delivery makes your admission process more efficient.
Keeping families together promotes bonding and breastfeeding. Mothers and babies have immediate skin-to-skin contact and uninterrupted time together after delivery. Plus, newborns stay in mom’s room 24 hours a day. Of course, if mom needs rest, baby can visit the well-newborn nursery for a little while.
Help with Breastfeeding
Lactation consultants help new moms with breastfeeding and special needs. Nurses also provide support and can answer many questions about proper holding and latching on.
On-site Surgical Suite
If mom needs a cesarean section, we are prepared with a surgical suite within the unit.
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
Premature infants and those needing special attention receive care in St. Joseph’s NICU. The NICU team includes pediatric subspecialists, specially trained nurses and respiratory therapists, as well as staff focused on nutrition, pharmacy, social services and pastoral care. The unit features specialized equipment and monitoring systems, low lighting, rubber floors and sound-absorbing ceiling tiles to help nurture the tiniest patients’ development.
Prenatal and Breastfeeding Classes
The Birthplace offers classes designed to support the journey from pregnancy into parenthood. Classes cover everything from labor and delivery to newborn care and recovery. Breastfeeding classes are also available for parents-to-be.
