Local organizations looking to put a charge into Burn Awareness Week, Feb. 3 – 9

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Jan. 31, 2008) – To help put a charge into Burn Awareness Week, representatives from the St. Joseph Regional Burn Center, Fort Wayne Fire Department and WAJI Majic 95.1 FM will be giving away free nine-volt batteries for smoke detectors.  The batteries will be available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 4, at 816 Pint & Slice pizzeria, 816 Calhoun Street in downtown Fort Wayne.

Members of the St. Joe Burn Center and Fort Wayne Fire Department will also be there to pass along valuable tips to help you and your loved ones avoid burns and prevent fires.  After all, too often a family suffers incredible loss due to something as simple as a fully drained battery in a smoke detector. To reduce your risk, be sure to test your smoke detector once a month, change the battery once a year and practice good fire safety.  Visit stjoehospital.com to learn more.
